Sponsorships
SunGard sponsors Riis Cycling, a professional cycling team that rides as Team Saxo Bank, and PGA golfer Jim Furyk. As a global leader in software and technology services, SunGard is pleased to align its brand with these two leaders in their respective sports.
Team Saxo Bank
An untimely dropped chain cost Andy Schleck the yellow jersey on Stage 15 of the Tour de France, giving up the race lead to Alberto Contador. Schleck, who is just eight seconds behind the new race leader, still retains the white jersey as the best young rider in the Tour.
Schleck’s comments on today’s stage: "I was feeling strong and determined throughout the stage and the team really did everything to put me in the perfect position for the final climb. When I launched my second attack, the chain got stuck and I had to get off the bike to put it back on. Then they attacked. I probably wouldn't have done it like that. I'm just really looking forward to getting another chance of attacking. The jersey deserves honor."
The Tour de France finishes on July 25 in Paris. Look out for SunGard’s sponsorship of TV coverage on the Versus channel in the U.S.
In a press conference held during the Tour’s July 12 rest day, SunGard’s president and chief executive officer Cris Conde and Riis Cycling’s chief executive officer Bjarne Riis announced that SunGard has entered into an agreement to extend its sponsorship of Riis Cycling in 2011 and will be a main sponsor in collaboration with another company. The name of the other main sponsor will be presented after the conclusion of the Tour de France.
